Local Sites - Nob End

The Nob End site is a former tip of waste from the chemical industries. The waste was initially very toxic and inhibited any growth. Subsequently, much of the most toxic waste was removed, resulting is a habitat which could support new vegetation. However the chemical residues meant the substrate was quite different from typical soils of the area, so the plants which grew were unusual for this part of the country.

Nob End has been managed as a nature reserve for many years because of the special flora found there.
